Njegovan families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Pasman , less frequently Serbs from Gospic. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born on the Island of Pasman and in Gospic. In Tribanj on the Island of Pasman every eighth inhabitant had the family name Njegovan.
Prevalence
About 370 people with faimily name Njegovan live in Croatia today, in 180 households. There were 560 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 30 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 31 cities and 32 other places, mostly in Rijeka (80), Tribanj on the Island of Pasman (50), Zagreb (40), Split (25), and in Ivankovo in Vinkovci area (25).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
