Nižić families are Croats and they are mostly from Herzegovina. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Herzegovina (Ljubuski area) and in Zadar. In places Crveni Grm and Lisice in Herzegovina every fifth inhabitant had the family name Nižić.
Prevalence
About 460 people with faimily name Nižić live in Croatia today, in 190 households. There were 220 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number doubled. They are located in 9 Croatian counties, in 19 cities and 23 other places, mostly in Zagreb (75), Zadar (55), Primosten in Sibenik area (50), Preko on the Island of Ugljan (45), and in Ploce (35).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
