Nikić families are often Croats and they are mostly from Bosnian Posavina , less frequently Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Bosanian Posavina (Brcko area) and in Tuzla Region, Bosnia (Tuzla area). In Kosci in Tuzla Region (Bosnia) every sixth inhabitant had the family name Nikić.
Prevalence
About 1100 people with faimily name Nikić live in Croatia today, in 440 households. There were 150 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number multiplied. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 59 cities and 129 other places, mostly in Zagreb (225), Borovo in Vukovar area (45), Osijek (30), Rijeka (25), and in Novska (25).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
