Modrušan families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Pazin area. According to some sources they are from Modrus in Lika, rarely Italians. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Pula and in Pazin area. In Modrušani in Pazin area every second inhabitant had the family name Modrušan.
Prevalence
About 520 people with faimily name Modrušan live in Croatia today, in 220 households. There were 430 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 20 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 23 cities and 52 other places, mostly in Pula (100), Rovinj (55), Zagreb (55), Modrusani in Pazin area (40), and in Rijeka (25).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
