About 410 people with faimily name Mlakar live in Croatia today, in 170 households. There were 380 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 37 cities and 36 other places, mostly in Zagreb (85), Varazdin (35), Trnovec in Varazdin area (35), Lug Orehovicki in Lepoglava area (15), and in Krapina (15).

Family name Mlakar is present in 20 countries worldwide. The family name "Mlakar " is used by some 400 people in the United States , about 200 in Germany , and some 100 people in France.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
