Mišić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Bosnian Posavina , rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Bosanian Posavina (Derventa area) and in Western Bosnia (Livno area). In Homatlije in North Herzegovina every second inhabitant had the family name Mišić.
Prevalence
About 1800 people with faimily name Mišić live in Croatia today, in 740 households. There were 700 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number more than doubled. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 73 cities and 163 other places, mostly in Zagreb (335), Split (85), Vinkovci (70), Slani Dol (65), and in Slavonski Brod (65).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over forty times, the first time 1729 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
