Mitar families are Croats and they are mostly from Trogir area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sisak and Trogir. In Osoje in Tuzla Region (Bosnia) every fifth inhabitant had the family name Mitar.
Prevalence
About 390 people with faimily name Mitar live in Croatia today, in 170 households. There were 260 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 50 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 27 cities and 45 other places, mostly in Trogir (75), Zagreb (55), Gornje Komarevo (35), Imotski (25), and in Seget Donji in Trogir area (20).
