Mileta families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Labin area. According to some sources they are from Sibenik, rarely Serbs from Drnis. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sibenik and in Labin area. In Županići in Labin area every third inhabitant had the family name Mileta.
Prevalence
About 270 people with faimily name Mileta live in Croatia today, in 130 households. There were 370 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 30 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 19 cities and 20 other places, mostly in Zagreb (55), Sibenik (35), Split (25), Labin (20), in Tkon on the Island of Pasman (15) and in Puli.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 2007 in source Encyclopaedia of Croatian Surnames.
