Mikas families are Croats and they are mostly from Biograd na Moru area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and Omis. In Srijane in Omis every eighth inhabitant had the family name Mikas.
Prevalence
About 240 people with faimily name Mikas live in Croatia today, in 100 households. There were 160 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 50 percent. They are located in 6 Croatian counties, in 12 cities and 12 other places, mostly in Sveti Filip i Jakov in Biograd na moru area (80), Split (40), Srijane (30), Zagreb (30), and in Dugi Rat in Omis area (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
