Mijat families are Croats and they are mostly from Vodice. According to some sources they are from Prvic Sepurine. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sibenik and Vodice. In Srima in Vodice every third inhabitant had the family name Mijat.
Prevalence
About 110 people with faimily name Mijat live in Croatia today, in 50 households. There were 90 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 20 percent. They are located in 8 Croatian counties, in 10 cities and 9 other places, mostly in Vodice (30), Zagreb (20), Sibenik (15), Srima (10), and in Tribunj (10).
