Mihajlović families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Beli Manastir , whereas often Croats (from Vukovar area ), very rarely Roms (from Beli Manastir area ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Osijek and in Beli Manastir area. In Mokronozi in Podrinje (Bosnia) nearly every inhabitant had the family name Mihajlović.
Prevalence
About 1200 people with faimily name Mihajlović live in Croatia today, in 550 households. There were 1400 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 71 cities and 140 other places, mostly in Zagreb (130), Beli Manastir (75), Darda in Osijek area (65), Slavonski Brod (60), and in Belisce (50).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over seventy times, the first time 1749 in source 18th Century Census.
