Surname Melon in modern Croatia

In Croatia, Melon families are mainly Croats (from Porec area ), less frequently Italians (from Buje area ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Pula and Pazin. In Cerion in Porec area every sixth inhabitant had the family name Melon.

About 60 people with faimily name Melon live in Croatia today, in 20 households. There were 100 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 40 percent.
They are located in two Croatian counties and 6 other places, mostly in Cerion in Porec area (15), Umag (10), Motovun in Buzet area (<10), Rijeka (<10), and in Petrovija (<10).
