Maćešić families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Duga Resa area , whereas often Croats (from Donji Miholjac area ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Duga Resa area and in Karlovac. In Dugi Dol in Duga Resa area every second inhabitant had the family name Maćešić.
Prevalence
About 280 people with faimily name Maćešić live in Croatia today, in 150 households. There were 560 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number halved. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 18 cities and 30 other places, mostly in Zagreb (60), Dugi Dol in Duga Resa area (50), Karlovac (40), Rijeka (30), and in Budacka Rijeka in Duga Resa area (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
