Mazić families are Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Ugljan. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zadar and in Tuzla Region, Bosnia (Tuzla area). In Ljepunice in Tuzla Region (Bosnia) every eighth inhabitant had the family name Mazić.
Prevalence
About 210 people with faimily name Mazić live in Croatia today, in 100 households. There were 130 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 60 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 19 cities and 22 other places, mostly in Zadar (55), Preko on the Island of Ugljan (30), Zagreb (25), Split (20), and in Dubrovnik (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1825 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
