They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 36 cities and 53 other places, mostly in Zagreb (120), Saborsko in Slunj area (85), Rijeka (45), Suhopolje in Virovitica area (45), and in Poljanak in Otocac area (40).

At least ten families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to: Germany (5), Australia (3), the Netherlands (1), and to the United States (1). Family name Matovina is present in 11 countries on three continents. The family name "Matovina " is used by some 200 people in the United States , small number in Australia , and small number of people in Canada.
