Marčetić families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Knin area , whereas often Croats (from Orahovica area ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Knin area and in Zagreb. In Čojlug in Orahovica area every third inhabitant had the family name Marčetić.
Prevalence
About 260 people with faimily name Marčetić live in Croatia today, in 120 households. There were 450 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 40 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 31 cities and 22 other places, mostly in Zagreb (80), Rijeka (15), Osijek (15), Bjelovar (10), and in Pozega (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1750 in source 18th Century Census.
