Marušić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Zadar area. According to some sources they are from Albania and Herzegovina, Dalmatia (near Omis) or Vukovar area, barely Italians (Umag) and Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and Zagreb. In Marušići in Omis nearly every inhabitant had the family name Marušić.
Prevalence
About 3300 people with faimily name Marušić live in Croatia today, in 1400 households. There were 2200 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 50 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 90 cities and 279 other places, mostly in Zagreb (590), Split (300), Zadar (165), Rijeka (115), and in Zemunik Donji in Zadar area (105).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over eighty times, the first time 1614 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
