Martinović families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from middle Bosnia , rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Middle Bosnia (Travnik area) and in Zagreb. In Martinovići in Glina every second inhabitant had the family name Martinović.
Prevalence
About 5500 people with faimily name Martinović live in Croatia today, in 2400 households. There were 3200 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 70 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 103 cities and 490 other places, mostly in Zagreb (1020), Zadar (215), Split (180), Rijeka (160), and in Slavonski Brod (150).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over a hundred times, the first time 1749 in source 18th Century Census.
