Martinac families are Croats and they are mostly from Ivanic-Grad area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zadar and Zagreb. In Čerin in Herzegovina every fifth inhabitant had the family name Martinac.
Prevalence
About 240 people with faimily name Martinac live in Croatia today, in 120 households. There were 300 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 19 cities and 17 other places, mostly in Zagreb (70), Sukosan in Zadar area (25), Karlovac (20), Split (20), and in Rijeka (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
