In Croatia, Mart families are generally Croats (from the Island of Brac ), very rarely Jews (from Rijeka ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sisak and in Hrvatska Kostajnica area. In Čukur in Hrvatska Kostajnica every thirtieth inhabitant had the family name Mart.
Prevalence
About 20 people with faimily name Mart live in Croatia today, in 9 households. There were 20 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located and four other Croatian places, mostly in Rijeka (<5), Samobor (<5), Greda Sunjska in Hrvatska Kostajnica area (<5), Krsan in Labin area (<5), and in Hrvatska Kostajnica (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
