Marović families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Split , barely Serbs and Montenegrins. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and Sinj. In Zelovo in Sinj every sixth inhabitant had the family name Marović.
Prevalence
About 1100 people with faimily name Marović live in Croatia today, in 420 households. There were 1100 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 43 cities and 76 other places, mostly in Split (230), Zagreb (135), Mravince (120), Rakov Potok (75), and in Solin (40).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
