Markić families are Croats and they are mostly from Rama (north Herzegovina), Bosnia. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Herzegovina (Mostar area) and in Rama, Bosnia (Prozor area). In Šćipe in Rama (Bosnia) every fourth inhabitant had the family name Markić.
Prevalence
About 1200 people with faimily name Markić live in Croatia today, in 470 households. There were 230 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number multiplied. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 53 cities and 112 other places, mostly in Zagreb (240), Split (90), Sesvete (55), Ivankovo in Vinkovci area (55), and in Vinkovci (50).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over fifty times, the first time 1606 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
