Maretić families are Croats and they are mostly from Sinj area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and Zagreb. In Podumci in Drnis area every second inhabitant had the family name Maretić.
Prevalence
About 1200 people with faimily name Maretić live in Croatia today, in 490 households. There were 1100 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 45 cities and 87 other places, mostly in Split (235), Zagreb (130), Kraj in Sinj area (125), Kupinec in Jastrebarsko area (70), and in Sibenik (60).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
