Marelja families are Croats and they are mostly from middle Bosnia. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Western Bosnia (Livno area) and in Middle Bosnia (Tesanj area). In places Putešić and Kalošević in Middle Bosnia every second inhabitant had the family name Marelja.
Prevalence
About 280 people with faimily name Marelja live in Croatia today, in 130 households. There were 20 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number multiplied. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 26 cities and 44 other places, mostly in Zagreb (75), Split (20), Kastel Luksic (10), Hrebinec in Dugo Selo area (10), and in Velika Gorica (<10).
