In Croatia, Maran families are predominantly Croats (from Zagreb ), rarely Serbs, and very rarely Bosniaks (from Bosnian Krajina ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Bosanian Posavina (Bosanski Novi area).
Prevalence
About 20 people with faimily name Maran live in Croatia today, in 13 households. There were 10 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number doubled. They are located in 6 Croatian counties and two other places, mostly in Zagreb (20), Pula (<5), Velika Gorica (<5), Zecevo Rogoznicko in Trogir area (<5), and in Rijeka (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1923 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
