Mandić families are often Croats and they are mostly from Tuzla Region (Bosnia). According to some sources they are from Boke Kotorske, rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and in Doboj, Bosnia (Doboj area). In Lise in Herzegovina every second inhabitant had the family name Mandić.
Prevalence
About 5700 people with faimily name Mandić live in Croatia today, in 2400 households. There were 4300 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 30 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 106 cities and 495 other places, mostly in Zagreb (1100), Split (325), Osijek (170), Zadar (155), and in Rijeka (155).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned about one hundred times, the first time 1749 in source 18th Century Census.
