Mamut families are Croats and they are mostly from Trogir area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Trogir area and in Split. In Blizna Donja in Trogir area every fifth inhabitant had the family name Mamut.
Prevalence
About 210 people with faimily name Mamut live in Croatia today, in 80 households. There were 140 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 50 percent. They are located in 9 Croatian counties, in 11 cities and 13 other places, mostly in Trogir (70), Blizna Donja in Trogir area (30), Split (30), Zadar (10), and in Kastel Luksic (<10).
