Mamula families are predominantly Serbs and they are mostly from Vrbovsko , less frequently Croats (also from Vrbovsko ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Ogulin and Vrbovsko. In Jasenak in Ogulin every third inhabitant had the family name Mamula.

About 500 people with faimily name Mamula live in Croatia today, in 230 households. There were 780 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 40 percent.
They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 32 cities and 43 other places, mostly in Gomirje (90), Zagreb (65), Rijeka (65), Jasenak (60), and in Karlovac (25).
