About 270 people with faimily name Malbaša live in Croatia today, in 120 households. There were 320 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 23 cities and 28 other places, mostly in Brnaze (80), Zagreb (35), Sinj (20), Laslovo in Osijek area (15), and in Biovicino Selo in Knin area (10).

Family name Malbaša (including: Malbasa , Malbasha ) is present in five countries on three continents. The family name "Malbasa " is used by some 200 people in the United States.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
