Makovec families are Croats and they are mostly from Cakovec area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Cakovec and in Ivanec area. In Bikovec in Ivanec area every ninth inhabitant had the family name Makovec.
Prevalence
About 220 people with faimily name Makovec live in Croatia today, in 100 households. There were 300 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 30 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 21 cities and 38 other places, mostly in Cakovec (30), Varazdin (20), Zagreb (20), Bikovec in Ivanec area (15), and in Zasadbreg in Cakovec area (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
