About 530 people with faimily name Makar live in Croatia today, in 210 households. There were 590 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 27 cities and 59 other places, mostly in Zagreb (120), Belica in Cakovec area (35), Cakovec (25), Ludbreg (25), and in Prigorje in Krapina area (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
