Mak families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Osijek area , barely Hungarians. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Osijek and Zagreb. In Kotarice in Zabok area every sixth inhabitant had the family name Mak.
Prevalence
About 290 people with faimily name Mak live in Croatia today, in 120 households. There were 280 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 23 cities and 21 other places, mostly in Cepin in Osijek area (50), Osijek (40), Zagreb (35), Grdenci (25), and in Kotarice in Zabok area (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
