Major families are often Croats and they are mostly from Donji Miholjac area , less frequently Hungarians. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Osijek.
Prevalence
About 270 people with faimily name Major live in Croatia today, in 110 households. There were 280 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 21 cities and 32 other places, mostly in Zagreb (65), Pakrac (20), Osijek (20), Divosevci in Djakovo area (20), and in Beli Manastir (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
