Majić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Herzegovina. According to some sources they are from Vrgorac area, very rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Herzegovina (Grude area) and in North Herzegovina (Konjic area). In Bušćak in North Herzegovina nearly every inhabitant had the family name Majić.
Prevalence
About 2400 people with faimily name Majić live in Croatia today, in 960 households. There were 740 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number tripled. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 71 cities and 190 other places, mostly in Zagreb (430), Split (310), Slavonski Brod (130), Osijek (110), and in Imotski (75).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
