Majcen families are Croats and they are mostly from Varazdin area. According to some sources they are from Slovenia, Austria and Germany. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Varazdin. In Veliko Svinjičko in Sisak every ninth inhabitant had the family name Majcen.
Prevalence
About 660 people with faimily name Majcen live in Croatia today, in 270 households. There were 620 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 33 cities and 73 other places, mostly in Zagreb (140), Varazdin (45), in Trnovec (40) and Sracinec (30) in Varazdin area, and in Veliko Svinjicko (25).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over fifty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
