Mahmić families are mainly Bosniaks and they are mostly from Cazinska Krajina Region (Bosnia), whereas often Croats (also from Cazinska Krajina Region , Bosnia). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Cazins Region, Bosnia (Bosanska Krupa area) and in Middle Bosnia (Maglaj area). In Mahmić Selo in Cazins Region (Bosnia) every second inhabitant had the family name Mahmić.
Prevalence
About 100 people with faimily name Mahmić live in Croatia today, in 40 households. They are located in 9 Croatian counties, in 13 cities and 9 other places, mostly in Rijeka (40), Zagreb (25), Pula (<10), Zadar (<5), and in Split (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
