In Croatia, Lupis families are Croats (from Peljesac Peninsula ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Dubrovnik and Sisak. In Nakovanj on Peljesac Peninsula every second inhabitant had the family name Lupis.
Prevalence
About 40 people with faimily name Lupis live in Croatia today, in 20 households. There were 30 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 60 percent. They are located and threee other Croatian places, mostly in Loviste (10) and Kuciste (10) on the Peljesac peninsula, Zagreb (<10), Sisak (<10), and in Viganj on the Peljesac peninsula (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1929 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
