Lukenda families are Croats and they are mostly from Banja Luka area (Bosnia). According to some sources they are from Tihaljina in west Herzegovina. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Banja Luka Region, Bosnia (Banja Luka area) and in Middle Bosnia (Kakanj area). In Barlovci in Banja Luka Region (Bosnia) every sixth inhabitant had the family name Lukenda.
Prevalence
About 440 people with faimily name Lukenda live in Croatia today, in 180 households. There were 40 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number multiplied. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 39 cities and 53 other places, mostly in Zagreb (140), Osijek (25), Rijeka (20), Vinkovci (15), and in Gracac in Knin area (15).
Outside Croatia
Family name Lukenda is present in 16 countries worldwide. The family name "Lukenda " is used by some 200 people in Tanzania , about 200 in the United States , and small number of people in Canada.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1927 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
