Leš families are Croats and they are mostly from Klanjec. According to some sources they are from Gorski Kotar, where they immigrated maybe even from Czechia. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Klanjec. In Police in Klanjec every fifth inhabitant had the family name Leš.
Prevalence
About 430 people with faimily name Leš live in Croatia today, in 180 households. There were 480 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 26 cities and 39 other places, mostly in Zagreb (125), Stubicka Slatina (45), Ravna Gora in Delnice area (30), Karlovac (20), and in Police (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
