In Croatia, Letonja families are generally Croats (from Varazdin area ), rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Slovenia and in Ivanec area. In Selci Križovljanski in Ivanec area every fourtieth inhabitant had the family name Letonja.
Prevalence
About 10 people with faimily name Letonja live in Croatia today, in 7 households. There were 20 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number halved. They are only located in threee Croatian cities and 6 other places, mostly in Varazdin (<5), Slatine (<5), Split (<5), Zapresic (<5), and in Sracinec in Varazdin area (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1931 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
