Lesar families are Croats and they are mostly from Cakovec area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Cakovec and in Slunj area. In Podcetin in Slunj area every seventh inhabitant had the family name Lesar.
Prevalence
About 390 people with faimily name Lesar live in Croatia today, in 150 households. There were 320 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 20 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 17 cities and 49 other places, mostly in Cakovec (50), Nedelisce in Cakovec area (35), Zagreb (35), Karlovac (20), and in Pasin Potok in Slunj area (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
