In Croatia, Lakota families are generally Croats (from Cabar ), very rarely Italians (from Opatija ), and barely Bosniaks (from Sibenik ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Cabar and in Slovenia.
Prevalence
About 70 people with faimily name Lakota live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 110 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 40 percent. They are located in 9 Croatian counties, in 11 cities and 11 other places, mostly in Gradiste in Zupanja area (<10), Zagreb (<10), Buzdohanj in Rijeka area (<10), Cabar (<10), and in Pobri (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
