Surname Labus in modern Croatia

Labus families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Knin area , whereas often Croats (from Zadar). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Knin area. In Velika Popina in Knin area every sixth inhabitant had the family name Labus.

Prevalence

About 140 people with faimily name Labus live in Croatia today, in 70 households. There were 230 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 40 percent.
They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 18 cities and 12 other places, mostly in Zagreb (40), Sukosan in Zadar area (15), Kutina (15), Rijeka (10), and in Velika Gorica (<10).

Family name Labus (including: Labush , Labbus , Labusz , Lábus and Labuss ) is present in 42 countries worldwide. "Labuss " is used by few people in the United States. "Labush " is used by some 90 people in the United States , about 60 in Russian Federation , and small number of people in Ukraine. "Labbus " is used by small number of people in Germany and small number in the United States.
