Kursar families are Croats and they are mostly from Vodice. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sibenik and Vodice. In Prvić Šepurine in Vodice every eighth inhabitant had the family name Kursar.

About 230 people with faimily name Kursar live in Croatia today, in 110 households. There were 180 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 30 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 16 cities and 10 other places, mostly in Zagreb (40), Tribunj (40), Sibenik (35), Vodice (20), and in Split (15).
Outside Croatia
At least five families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to: Australia (3), Germany (1), and to the United States (1). Family name Kursar is present in 12 countries on four continents. The family name "Kursar " is used by some 200 people in the United States and about 70 in Australia.
