Kurjak families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Petrinja , also Serbs very rarely Bosniaks. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Pakrac. In Branešci in Pakrac every seventh inhabitant had the family name Kurjak.
Prevalence
About 120 people with faimily name Kurjak live in Croatia today, in 60 households. There were 140 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in 8 Croatian counties, in 14 cities and 11 other places, mostly in Zagreb (40), Split (20), Sisak (15), Pakrac (10), and in Zadar (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1933 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
