In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Beli Manastir area and in Beli Manastir area. In Podolje in Beli Manastir area every fourtieth inhabitant had the family name Kurel.
Prevalence
About 10 people with faimily name Kurel live in Croatia today, in 6 households. There were 40 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased significantly. They are only located in two Croatian cities and four other places, mostly in Suza (<10) and Knezevi Vinogradi (<5) in Beli Manastir area, Osijek (<5), Beli Manastir (<5), and in Branjin Vrh (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
