Krnic families are Croats and they are mostly from Petrinja area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Petrinja area and in Sisak. In Letovanić in Petrinja area every fifth inhabitant had the family name Krnic.
Prevalence
About 160 people with faimily name Krnic live in Croatia today, in 80 households. There were 120 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 40 percent. They are located in 9 Croatian counties, in 13 cities and 19 other places, mostly in Zagreb (50), Letovanic in Petrinja area (40), Sisak (25), Ivanec (<10), and in Hrastelnica (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over eighty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
