Krčmar families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Cakovec area (Virje), very rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Cakovec. In Malo Selo in Western Bosnia nearly every inhabitant had the family name Krčmar.
Prevalence
About 430 people with faimily name Krčmar live in Croatia today, in 190 households. There were 540 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 29 cities and 49 other places, mostly in Zagreb (70), Mala Subotica in Cakovec area (40), Virje in Djurdjevac area (30), Orehovica in Cakovec area (30), and in Cakovec (25).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
