Kočić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Banja Luka area (Bosnia), also Serbs and Bosniaks. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Banja Luka Region, Bosnia (Banja Luka area) and in Bosanian Posavina (Orasje area).
Prevalence
About 70 people with faimily name Kočić live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 60 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 17 cities and 18 other places, mostly in Ladjevac in Nova Gradiska area (10), Rijeka (<10), Split (<10), Pula (<10), and in Dubrovnik (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1923 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
