In Croatia, Kovać families are almost entirely Croats (from Virovitica area ), very rarely Bosniaks (from Bosnian Krajina ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Virovitica area and in Ludbreg.
Prevalence
About 30 people with faimily name Kovać live in Croatia today, in 20 households. There were 30 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 15 cities and 12 other places, mostly in Bjelovar (<5), Pitomaca in Djurdjevac area (<5), Virovitica (<5), Spisic Bukovica in Virovitica area (<5), and in Podravske Sesvete in Djurdjevac area (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over a hundred times, the first time 1669 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
